Nanette Kraaikamp (1978, Bussum) studied fine art at the Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, after which she studied art history at the University of Amsterdam.
Drawing is for a her a very direct and sensitive way to express her thoughts. Her drawings often take the form of larger than life-size figures, executed in charcoal, pencil, and chalk.
Kraaikamp is fascinated by secrecy. This fascination is also the inspiration for her when making a drawing. The work comes into being without an existing plan, finding form in the process of drawing itself. She also allows herself to be inspired by music, memories, and associations, or for example a collection of old black & white photos, or fairytale illustrations.
