At work in Jingdezhen, China!
A slideshow/lecture by Joop Haring.

BOOKSTORE participant Joop Haring will give a slideshow and lecture about “porcelaine city” Jingdezhen in China.
Joop spent nine weeks working there with the ‘blanc de Chine’ – the brilliant-white Chinese porcelaine clay – experimenting and making new sculptures.
Haring, who has working before in China, will explain about living and working as a foreign artist in a Chinese artists’ residency.
Therefore, the emphasis will lie with the collaboration with Chinese artists, workers, and being caught up in the everyday rhythm of China.

Such questions will be addressed as:

“How do artists live/survive in China?”
“What does ‘free time’ mean for the modern Chinese citizen, if every day is a workday?”
“Do the Chinese live to work or work to live?”
“How strong is the sense of collectivity, and why is Karaoke so popular?”

For answers to all these and more, come to Joop’s lecture at the BOOKSTORE!
