If only there were more people like Nyk de Vries. Heartfelt, funny and
to the point. Nyk will read and play some his ultra short absurd
stories and songs that feel like a mix of flash fiction, prose poetry
and jokes. But good jokes. Ones that make you laugh, but also cry
inside a little. Nyk’s latest book is called “De dingen gebeuren omdat
ze rijmen”, and every word in it is true. Maybe he’ll bring some
copies that maybe he’ll sign, awkwardly.
Talking about awkward, I owe Djurre de Haan aka awkward i beer money,
so I thought I’d invite him over for a Good Night. Fortunately, he’s
also one of Holland’s finest lyricists, a great singer and guitar
player, and a lot of fun. He has put out some great records, the
latest and greatest of which is called “Everything on Wheels”, which
has one of my favourite lines of all time: Visited the cemetery/What a
place to see/Death running in the family!” Yay.
Your host of the good night, Marc van der Holst, will probably also do
something awkward, to stay in the spirit of things, but he doesn’t
know what yet. We’ll see. Just don’t buy him any beers. It’ll be
awkward enough without them. Dresscode: awkward. See you there!
